Julio Society International
The Julio Society International is a
non-profit organization
entirely controlled by a volunteer Board of Directors, most of them
residing
in Charlotte County, New Brunswick (Canada), or Washington County,
Maine.
Through a sponsorship by the City of Calais, a partnership was created
with the Down East RC&D, who made it one of their area projects in
order to provide grantwriting assistance using their non-profit
501(c)(3)
status, to prepare press releases about the Society and award
recipients,
and to get the word out about the Society through their quarterly
newsletter.
The Savings Bank of Maine is
allowing the Society
to use their mailing address for citizens in Charlotte County, Canada,
and Washington County, Maine, to submit names and supporting materials
for the Citizenship Award and/or the Julio Helping Wing
Scholarship.
What is important here is that any citizen from the two counties may
nominate
any student as a recipient as long as they meet the criteria.
The Julio Good Citizen Award needs
no formal application.
A letter stating the student's name and the deed(s) that person has
done,
or is still doing, along with sufficient background information about
the
nominee that could be used in a press release, is all that is
required.
The Julio Society does not give any favor or preference based on a
person's
family name, a student's scholastic achievement, nor economic
status--IT'S
THE DEED THAT COUNTS (nothing else) (see below for award criteria and
application
instructions).
The Julio Helping Wing
Scholarship, by contrast,
has a formal application that is available from any locally
participating
high school's principal or guidance counselor. An application may
also be received by contacting the Down East RC&D Office at
546-2368
(email: dercd@downeastrcd.com)
or by contacting any Society member (see below for award criteria and
application
instructions).

Scholarship Criteria
|
Julio
Good Citizenship Award
|
The criteria for the Good Citizenship Award
is very simple
and can be put into a mathematical formula:
.
A + A = D
Attitude + Action = Deed
.
It's the deed that
counts. The
student's attitude is also very important and the actions they take
must
be useful and helpful in the community, making the community a better
place
in which to live, and should also make the community's citizens
recognize
the positive things around them. Nominations may be submitted by
anyone and sent to a Society member or to the Julio Society
International,
Attention of Dennis Brown, CEO; Savings Bank of Maine, P O Box 1047,
Calais, ME
04619. The Society recommends that nominations be submitted early
in the fall, or no later than April 1st, so that any student who is
a recipient of the Julio Citizenship Award will be able to list this
honor
on their college resume or on their job applications.
