Forestry Committee

Mission: To provide information and education that will assist communities, woods workers, and landowners to benefit from forested land while sustaining and improving the quality of natural resources.

The committee does not have a regular meeting schedule at the present time.

Meetings are held
in the Down East RC&D Office Conference Room

The committee has held numerous informational meetings, forums, symposiums and workshops over the years on  forestry-related subjects that were also of interest to the general public, especially those who owned woodland.

A balsam fir work shop was held in the fall of 1999 aimed at instilling good forest  ethics as it related to the taking of wreath brush from the woodlot.  Partnering with the Down East RC&D Forestry Committee were the SWOAM (Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine), the Maine Forest Service and the Maine Department of Conservation.

The committee also co-sponsored a Small Equipment Field Day which was held in conjunction with SWOAM's Annual Field Day, at Leonard's Mills in Bradley.

Former Forestry Committee Chair David Libby donated 80 American Chestnut Tree seedlings to communities in Hancock or Washington County who requested them.
